Governments are crucial in fighting the pandemic and citizens are likely to appreciate all that governments are doing.
Governments are on the front lines during the pandemic in assisting citizens who contract the virus. Employees are potentially being exposed to the virus and governments need to provide protective equipment and assistance to them. Governments are also dealing with reduced revenues, possible furloughs/layoffs, staffing challenges when front-line employees contract the virus or need to quarantine as well as some employees who are working remotely which has technical/security challenges as well as the need to manage employees who may be feeling isolated and stressed.
This is a time for the HR profession to demonstrate its strategic value to governments by designing and implementing programs for employees who are dealing with the impact of COVID-19.
