The issues of capacity building of training schools and institutes of public administration discussed in Almaty

Today, in Almaty, representatives of more than 10 countries has gathered to discuss how to nurture the capabilities of civil servants – their knowledge and skills, leadership and thinking. On 27-29 November the Workshop “Building Capacities of Training Institutes of Public Administration to Implement the 2030 Agenda and Attain the SDGs”.

Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Astana Civil Service Hub Mr. Alikhan Baimenov, UNDP Resident Representativein Kazakhstan Mr. Yakup Beris,  Senior Governance and Public Administration Officer, DPIDG/ UN DESA Mr. Garegin Manukyan, Head of Almaty Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of KazakhstanMr. Erlan Iskakov andVice-Rector of Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ms. Aigul Kosherbayeva have delivered welcoming remarks to participants.

Mr. Baimenov noted that the quality of public administration is taking important place for the achievement of the SDGs. “In turn, the quality of public administration is determined to a large extent on the quality of human resource training, which is carried out by public administration institutions and centers. These aspects are timelessness in contemporary VUCA world for every country in development priorities.” – has been mentioned by speaker.

The common aim of the event is to develop the capacity building of civil servants to support the implementation of SDGs, also to share information on enhancement of public management institutions.

Participants of the workshop had opportunity to discuss relevant challenges of scholars and academies on public administration, its transformation path and innovation leadership. Best practices in the field of civil service were introduced by the leading experts from the Netherlands, UAE, USA and other countries.

During the event representatives of state authorities, experts and SDGs Focal points from six countries – Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – have considered the effective approaches of structural changes and improvement of government institutions, civil servants’ competencies required for transformational leadership in attaining SDGs. This platform will contribute to multilateral talk, transmission of innovative ideas and new partnership relations.

In the framework of the workshop the study tour to “One-Stop-Shop” and presentation of “Government for Citizens” Public Corporation” NJSC were introduced.

The workshop was organized by Astana Civil Service Hub, UN DESA and UNDP with the support of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the “Government for Citizens” Public Corporation” NJSC.

For reference: During UN Summit (27-29 September 2015) UN state-members has accepted Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, the foundation of which were SDGs. The Agenda 2030 aims to achieve a fair, rights-based, equitable and inclusive world. Kazakhstan, as a country that has committed to the SDGs, is actively working in all directions and is ready to contribute to the successful achievement of global goals. On July 16, 2019, Kazakhstan presented at the UN Headquarters in New York the first Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the field of sustainable development during the High-Level Political Forum - the central platform of the UN.

Main areas of activities
