Roundtable discussion on modern public administration was held in UNDP Headquarter in New York
An international roundtable on modern public administration was held at the UN Headquarters in New York, organized by the Astana Civil Service Hub (ACSH) jointly with the UNDP Global Public Sector Programme (UNDP GPGS).
The event brought together leading experts, practitioners and academics in the field of public administration to discuss current challenges and new trends shaping public administration at both the global and regional levels. Particular attention was paid to innovative approaches and comparative practices aimed at developing more effective, inclusive and accountable public institutions.
Special attention on the agenda was given to the presentation of the book "Public Administration in the Modern Era", edited by the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Astana Hub Alikhan Baimenov. 37 international experts took part in the work on the book as co-authors and the emphasis was placed on the key challenges facing modern public administration. The book was highly praised by the participants for its practical focus and relevance of the content.
Speaking at the round table, Alikhan Baimenov emphasized:
“The world is facing increasing challenges — from populism and the climate crisis to rapid digitalization. In such conditions, it is especially important to form a civil service that is able to adapt, act promptly and maintain a strategic vision. The basis of such a service is human capital, trust and sustainable values.”
He also focused on the need to combine short-term solutions with long-term strategies and the importance of transparency and accountability to strengthen citizens' trust.
Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation Dima Al-Khatib noted in her speech that the multi-layered and simultaneous nature of modern crises does not allow countries to act in isolation. She emphasized the importance of international solidarity, sharing experiences and jointly developing solutions.
Following the round table, the participants confirmed their desire to deepen partnerships, exchange knowledge and jointly implement initiatives that contribute to the modernization of public administration and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
